We'll do an NHS for cars.
I know what you're thinking. We can't even get an NHS for people. And the car insurance lobby would hate it.
But I think mechanics would like it, and it would solve the problem of universal coverage, which unlike health insurance in this case protects other people.
This wouldn't just guarantee that cars are mechanically to a minimum standard without fining people, it would save jobs by keeping cars going, and you'd never hit an uninsured driver again.
Even if you give waivers to people who don't have cars, it would be a huge savings for everybody.
