I have a plan for the National Debt.

Most politicians don't understand the debt because they come from middle class families. But when you have this much debt, you need someone who is experienced with handling creditors, not with handling money.

A household needs certain things to survive. There are only so many corners you can cut. So if we can't afford those things, we need to make deals that Trump doesn't seem to understand how to make.

When a household owes more than they can pay, that bill goes into collections. If that collections agent doesn't get paid, they sell that debt to another collections agent for a fraction of the face value. The money you owed becomes less expensive and is traded on the market.

That's why activists are able to buy millions of dollars of medical bills for a few hundred thousand and then forgive those debts. What you owe isn't really what it takes to pay a debt off.

National debts are different. In our case, one of the differences is that our creditors don't come after us at all. Most of our debt is owed to China, and they're not pressing us to pay it right now. But there are some similarities, and I hear that you want the debt reduced, so along with good budget sense here's what I'll do as president.

I'll call Xi and make a deal. We'll make a really nice deal, huge, like nothing you've ever seen. It will reduce debt not just for us, but for China and around the world. If Trump knew how to make this beautiful deal he would, but he wants to cut jobs instead. Sad. I'll make the beautiful debt deal he wishes he could without bouncing your social security check.
