We're going to do the under 16 social media ban. As we know though, that isn't in itself a policy.
When we talk about enacting an age verification law online, the real policy is whatever you do to implement it. Every adult is going to be subject to whatever you come up with, and every child is on an adult's account. No matter how you do it, there's a privacy cost and a set of practical questions.
Our policy is an online ID system. It's the same as your driver's license. We would set up a system in the government that verifies your ID without you needing to submit your real ID to a website.
This would allow websites to restrict access based on age without giving any new information to any organization or company, and may enable websites to gather less information about you and still be compliant.
